Sodom is a German thrash metal band formed in 1981. Original line-up were Tom Angelripper, Chris Witchhunter and Aggressor. Receiving inspiration by bands such as Motörhead and Venom, they released two demos which led to a record deal with Steamhammer. Aggressor left the band shortly before releasing the In the Sign of Evil EP, and was replaced by Grave Violator, who did not last long himself. On the debut album Obsessed by Cruelty he was replaced by Destructor. However, after the release Destructor left the band to join Kreator.
Thereafter their break-through album Persecution Mania was released with yet another guitarist, Frank Blackfire. A live album Mortal Way of Live followed. The next album made Sodom famous; Agent Orange was released in 1989. Since then, Sodom is one of the three big names of German Thrash metal; the others are Kreator and Destruction. Again a new guitarist was to be found as Blackfire also left the band to join Kreator. The replacement was found in Michael Hoffman.
In this line-up the Better Off Dead album was released in 1990. During the South American tour however, Hoffman decided to stay in Brazil and therefore was forced to quit. His replacement was found in Andy Brings and a new album was recorded, titled Tapping the Vein, which was more death metal influenced than before. This proved to be the last album with the drummer Witchhunter who quit because of lack of interest in metal music. Atomic Steif found his way behind the drumkit.
This line-up now, recorded the next album, Get What You Deserve. Out were the death metal influence, in came the hardcore influences. At this time Angelripper also started a solo carreer doing metal impressions of drinking songs, German schlagers and even Xmassy Carols. Another live album was recorded of the tour in support of this album called Marooned - Live.
In the same vein as the previous album, Masquerade in Blood was released in 1995. Again another guitarist was to be found. The new axeman was Sthrahli, but he did not stay very long with the band either; he was fired due to drugs problems. Also Atomic Steif left and again Angelripper needed to search for new members. These were found in the person of Bernemann on guitars and Bobby Schottkowski on drums.
Chicago-based death metal band Master has been the primary musical vehicle for journeyman vocalist and bassist Paul Speckmann since the start of the 1990s, but his first known sighting dates back to 1982, as a short-term member of local power metal hopefuls, War Cry, who appeared on Metal Blade's Metal Massacre IV compilation. Speckmann and his rhythm partner, drummer Bill Schmidt, soon fell out with their band mates over creative differences (the duo wanted to play more extreme heavy metal, the others wanted to wimp out), but their new band took some time taking shape while they auditioned as many as 25 guitarists, without finding their man.
In the meantime, Speckmann became involved in another side project called Death Strike and Schmidt with a band called Mayhem (no relation to the Norwegian black metal clan), and so it wasn't until 1985 that their collaboration was revived with the recruitment of guitarist Chris Mittelbrun -- thus was born Master. Taking money he had recently inherited from his father, Speckmann paid for some studio time to record an album-length demo, and this quickly spread Master's name through the heavy metal underground, thanks to the worldwide tape trading network that bound fans together at the time.
But record companies seemingly weren't ready for the band's savage brand of thrash yet (and Master didn't care for the only deal offered by Combat), so the trio would continue to struggle for another five years before securing a deal for the eponymous Master album's release in 1990. By then, Speckmann had become temporarily distracted with other bands like Funeral Bitch and Abomination, and the original trio were splitting up, but positive fan reaction to Master's exciting death/thrash direction urged Speckmann to draft new guitarist Paul Masvidal (later of Death, Cynic, etc.) and drummer Aaron Nickeas for 1991's sophomore On the 7th Day God Created...Master.
Prostitute Disfigurement started out as a 3 piece near the end of 2000 under the name Disfigure, right before demo recordings to be joined by Roel on guitars. After the second liveshow the band was offered a record deal with dutch based Dismemberment Records and under the name Prostitute Disfigurement the debut album "Embalmed Madness" was released.
Both debut album and demo were recorded using a drum computer. "Embalmed Madness" was released during October 2001, in limited quantity of 500, which sold out in a few weeks. Quickly 500 more were pressed and were again sold out quickly. The album got raving reviews in media such as Aardschok (NL), Legacy (GER) and so on and is now re-released by Unmatched Brutality.
More gigs made a live drummer mandatory, to benefit the aggressive stage-act of Prostitute Disfigurement, so local guy Tim joined. After Tim was enlisted the band started to work on their second album, entitled "Deeds of Derangement". This heavy piece of death metal was recorded early February 2003 and was released on German based Morbid records in August 2003.
Again great reviews were received, yet despite this guitarplayer Niels left the band and Benny was asked to fill his shoes. To support the album lots of gigs were performed, including festival appearancess on Obscene Extreme, the Morbid festival and the Rotterdam Deathfest. Sharing stages with well-known acts like Suffocation, Exhumed and Gorerotted fed the band only more.
After 2 years of gigs Tim left the band and Michiel (Katafalk, Toxocara), was asked almost immediately. He gladly took over the drum duties and barely a month after he joined the ranks the band entered Excess Studios to record their third album, entitled "Left in Grisly Fashion". This album has now been released on Neurotic records on June 6th 2005. So far the response is overwhelming and Prostitute Disfigurement is planning their first full European tour in late summer as well as various other appearances in various countries.
Spring 2010 we'll start doing some exclusive shows and start writing new material.
THE HORROR RETURNS!
Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult was called into its existence during the cold wintery months of 1997.
After the glorious days of early old school black metal had been infested by Gothic influences, and the betrayal of the Scandinavian forefathers - who apperently changed their allegiance, it was the intention of the two founding members Onielar (Vokills, Git.) as well as Ariovist (Drums) to call forth a band which would contribute it's music to the old traditional vein of black metal.
Enthroned is a Belgian formation performing extreme and violent Black Metal the way it should be played. There is no doubt that this band is one of the leading and truest black metal acts from middle Europe.
Neraath – Guitar & Vocals
Izegrim was founded in the summer of 1996 when Joep (drums) teamed up with Jeroen (guitar). Shortly afterwards a complete order was recruited.
We recorded and released our first propaganda on tape, called 'Most Evil Demo' in spring 1998. The demo (featuring symphonic deathmetal) was generally received very positively by the media.
Izegrim released the self-financed mini-CD 'Bird of Prey' in the summer of 1999. From the start, Izegrim was received very well by both the media and audience at live-gigs.
Since the beginning of Izegrim´s existence the band has steadily become an established name in the Dutch metalscene. Our past performances gained us a substantial and steady fanbase through the years.
In november 2002 we released a new act of nihilism, called 'Guidelines for Genocide': a death-thrashing omen of doom that is certain to make you crave for an untimely death! Combining old-school thrash elements, catchy riffing and unconventional themes, we successfully probed new means to thrash.
After hitting the stage successfully together with TANKARD, PUNGENT STENCH, HOLY MOSES and many others, Anita gave up her induction in april 2004, and in Marloes we found a new recruit instead.
It is 2005. This summer a new omen of doom has been released upon this mediocre world: ‘New World Order’. We all have been screwed for way too long. ‘New World Order’ was released as a pre-taster for Izegrim’s upcoming full length.
Early 2008 the second full-length ‘Tribute to Totalitarianism’ has been unleashed upon this world through Rusty Cage Records. T.t.T. contains 10 songs with influences of all styles, yet with a substantial Izegrim-flavour added to it. After a successful European tour with FLOTSAM & JETSAM and a Dutch mini-tour, founding member Joep and vocalist Kristien decided to focus on something else after 12 years of service and they left in the summer of 2008. Within the shortest period of time Ivo was recruited to replace Joep, and Marloes took over the vocals.
March 2009: ‘Point of no Return’ is Izegrim’s wake-up call to the world, introducing the new line-up with 3 brand new songs and a re-recorded version of Angel of Demise (taken from our sold out album ‘Guidelines for Genocide’). And once again, Izegrim is on the move. Greater and greater numbers will be exposed to our raging torrent of thundering thrash, and the subversion has only just begun...
Usually, band reunions tend to turn out to be futile attempts at resurrecting a rotting carcass that is better left dead for good… Yet at times, bands manage to return rejuvenated, reenergised and stronger than ever before! Fortunately, exactly this hits the coffin nail on its head when it comes down to premier Dutch death metal masters ASPHYX! With their highly anticipated and aptly titled new album “Death…The Brutal Way” the quartet now releases a prime example for the perseverance and indestructible impact of real death metal!
Formed back in 1987 under the morbid influence of such infernal genre forefathers as Venom, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Slaughter and Death, ASPHYX started building their legendary reputation via several demos that spread like a plague within the tape trading and uprising underground metal community. Only one year older than their long-time label partner, Century Media, ASPHYX conquered the worldwide metal scene with such immortal death metal classics as “The Rack” (1991) and “The Last One On Earth” (1992). The band toured worldwide with fellow death metal forerunners-acts like Entombed, Benediction and Bolt Thrower to quickly establish themselves at the spearhead of the international extreme music scene.
The ripping riffs, the titanic roar of van Drunen, the pounding drumming and macabre atmosphere are 666% ASPHYX from start to finish and once you have listened to the entire new opus you will agree that the unique ASPHYX sound has been truly missed during the past years. Welcome back!
